Edwardian Lady Part 2: Dynamesh Sculpt
The next step after completing the block out is the dynamesh sculpting phase, still in ZBrush. The most challenging areas for me are the face, hands, and feet. With the face, I find getting the size and placement of the eyeballs takes me a while. I do my best to match the silhouette of the model with the 2D concept art. I do this by eye, always striving to make the 3D model as appealing as I can (sometimes overlaying the concept art on top of the model can be helpful, but I think it is good practice to train one’s eye by not doing this or waiting until the majority of the sculpting is done just to check).
Finding the balance between simplicity and conveying enough anatomy in a stylized character is the trick for sculpting appealing hands and feet. I would like to work on some hand and feet studies in the future. I decided to get the hands and feet to an “acceptable” stage so that I can move on to making the new topology in Blender. I haven’t quite learned how to work with the level of precision in ZBrush that I am used to in programs like Blender and Maya.
Thank you for reading.
Until next time,
Mandy
